Fab competition..

Jo Barnes Vintage currently has a competition on to win £75 to spend on their website!
This company does the most gorgeous and luxurious vintage inspired headpieces which just ooze glamour and look amazing! The prices aren’t cheap, but this is reflected in the amazing quality of the items.
Worth a look I think…

15 months yesterday..

In 14 months, 3 weeks and 6 days I will be a married woman!!

It seems like such a long time away, but in the grand scheme of things it is really not! How exciting!!
Plans are coming along well; the venue is booked,  the date and time arebooked with the registrar, thank you presents and some of my accessories have been bought, the guest list is written and our save the date cards are ready to be sent out in the New Year! It’s all coming along quite nicely!
The next things to sort out are  reserving the photographer and DJ

Wedding websites

When I first told Mr M I was in the process of making us a ‘wedding website’ he actually laughed. However, when I showed him how useful they can be, and how much information can be uploaded on there so not to clutter the invitations, he was actually very impressed.
There are many different versions of wedding websites; some are better than others. These are just a couple of the ones I’ve found:
  • gettingmarried.co.uk
  • weddingpath.co.uk
I chose to use getting married.co.uk because I randomly came across a website created by a couple who married at the same venue as we shall be, in November last year!
You can upload photos, create wedding party profiles, have an online gift list, give information about transport and local accommodation, plus loads more! And best of all, the ‘basic version’ (which actually isn’t very basic) is totally FREE!!
You can even personalise the web address with your names; for example, johnandkate@getting married.co.uk, and make it totally YOU!!
Despite originally being laughed at by Mr M, I am really pleased that I’ve created one for us; it’ll be particularly helpful nearer the time when things start getting finalised!
Oh, and I forgot to mention, you can even create an online RSVP facility for your guests to respond to online!!! How cool is that?! Save money on postage, save trees and paper versions and have all your responses in one place… Sounds genius to me!!
I’m still currently editing our one, but once its all done I might share the link with you..!

Save the date cards - Vistaprint

I originally thought I’d hand-make all the wedding stationery in the run up to our big day, but when I found a fab deal on Vistaprint I couldn’t say no!
For less than £10, I received 50 oversized postcards, personalised by having our photo on them and our choice of text! I uploaded a black and White photo of us, and added a couple of captions to the image to explain what the recipients were receiving. I used ‘we’re getting married’ at the top of the image, and in larger letters at the bottom I used ‘save the date’ and entered the date below.
SNEAK PEAK – THE REAL THING!!!
It’s important to note, that these were offered to me for free originally and although there were loads of different free options, I really wanted to make the save the dates fun, and so I uploaded a photo, which incurs a charge. The £9.08 I was charged was made up of the photo fee, postage and packing charges and VAT. However I did also order a free personalised t-shirt from them as well which was worth £6.99 on it’s own, so when you work out the actual cost of what was bought, it works out at really good value (in my opinion).
Also on offer, were various different styles of invitations, magnets, postcards, business cards - either for free, or dramatically reduced prices.
I do feel like I am banging on about Vistaprint in loads of my posts, but it’s a website that I have found to be brilliant, affordable and great quality. So if you are on a budget, it is always worth keeping an eye out for the deals that are being offered, as there may be something that is exactly what you are looking for, and for a price you’d never expect!
One last note; if you do choose to upload a photo onto the website to personalise an item, you pay a ONE OFF fee – you do not have to pay each time you use it on their website!! Fab!!!

We've booked our venue!

Despite having a horrendous case of tonsillitis, I managed to drag myself (Mr M did most of the dragging) to our favourite wedding venue this weekend.
And we took the plunge and booked it! So it is official; we’re getting married on the 28th December 2012!!!
Now we have a date, I can really step up my wedding planning research – I now only have approximately 462 days till the big day!!
Which leads me to my next post…

A plea to all Brides out there...

If you, like me have made notes of everything wedding related on your PC or laptop, BACK IT UP!!!!
I made the fatal mistake of not doing this, and MONTHS of research has all just been lost! My laptop has been a bit touchy for a while now, but it chose to fail massively, just after  I’d finished designing all my invitations!!
I’m back to square one now, so please, please, please BACK IT ALL UP!! Or at least print out hard copies!

Invitation wording... who'd have thought it'd be such a nightmare?!

I am currently playing around with bits of paper and card trying to create mock-ups of my invitation, when it suddenly dawned on me that I hadn’t thought about what the invitations were actually going to say!
Traditionally, weddings were ‘hosted’ and paid for by the Bride’s family. However in current times, the parental family set up can take many different forms; divorces, widowings, single-parent families. Not to mention that the way weddings are paid for can take different forms!
So when I realised I was one of those awkward people who has to confuse  things by not taking the ‘traditional’ route of hosting a wedding, I knew it was going to be a struggle to find something that fitted OUR situation perfectly.
My parents are divorced, Mr M’s aren’t. This means that if I took ‘invitation etiquette seriously, I’d have to list my parents names individually and Mr M’s together – which frankly looks a bit silly to me. To add to the confusion further, Mr M and I are funding the majority of the wedding ourselves. Our kind parents have donated bits and pieces here and there, but most of what we can have on the day is down to how much we as a couple save. So technically, WE are hosting the wedding, which means the parent’s shouldn’t be mentioned at all. But the parents ARE contributing small amounts of cash, so surely it’d only be polite to mention them…
You can see where this is going!!
So, we have decided on the following wording for our invitations. Hopefully it covers all the dodgy bits nicely, and still follows some kind of etiquette!!
“Together with their parents,
NAME
and
NAME
request the pleasure of your company
as they exchange vows and celebrate their marriage.
DATE
TIME
VENUE”
If you are still stuck, or you want something a bit less conventional then type ‘wedding invitation wording’ into Google and it’ll show you loads of good websites that have all the different kind of wordings to suit your situation.
I found Special Day Invitations to be particularly good as they have downloadable PDFs with different options for day and evening guests, thank you cards and reply cards. Click on the link to be taken straight there! http://www.specialdayinvitations.co.uk/index.php?main_page=page&id=9
The Offbeat Bride website was also good for less conventional types of wording – though I think you have to be either a space geek or hippy to be able to use them to their full extent without guests raising their eyebrows!!!

Its all coming together!

Its been a busy few weeks at the itsabridesworld hub; I’ve been grabbing bargains for my own big day, left, right and centre!!
I have so far bought all the thank you presents for our families and bridal party (everyone’s expect for Mr M’s present) and I spent a good half an hour sitting on the floor in Hobbycraft last weekend trying to find the ‘perfect’ shade of paint to jazz up my wooden Mr & Mrs letters!!
So far this week I have bought the cardstock for my invitations (will come onto this more in a sec), bought some cute little embellishments for the sweetie jar favours we are giving to our day guests and I also bought some wooden table numbers for the wedding breakfast tables which I am going to paint the same colour as the Mr & Mrs letters – all the result of hours of bargain hunting research!!
So, coming back to the cardstock for my invitations… I was in Hobbycraft at the weekend and they have got bumper 100 piece A4 white/cream/coloured fab quality and thickness card, for only £4.99!! If you are hoping to make your own invitations and will be using this type of card, then get yourself down there ASAP and grab yourself some! I haven’t even seen it as cheap as that on my good old friend eBay (taking into account the added costs of p&p etc)!!
Its also important to remember, that by spreading out the costs of buying all the little extra items you want for your wedding, it is easier to manage your money and be able to afford what you want. However, you MUST keep a record of all the spending you are doing on your budget planner – £10 here and there adds up very quickly!!!
